I think they are mutually exclusive, though.

Correct

I also think they were mutually exclusive. I really love this gen regal but I'm actually not a fan of the gs, you could also get the regular turbo with the manual and I've seen a couple of those and kinda want one. I just don't like the gs fangs and don't need the higher running costs of brembos etc. I came close to buying a normal one though, it just didn't work out and I'm also kinda scared to own a gm car, I've had a lot of bad experiences with work vehicles.

Ill bring a buick fascia and fit to a Insignia here, just for the sake of it

My friend saw one at a track day. It was doing well, apparently

Previous gen, not the one that just died. Actually may have been fwd.

There is one for sale in my city, 6 speed, awd, full load, under 100k km, for $12 CAD. Been for sale for a couple of months. I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t on my short list.

The supercharged
W body cars were sneaky quick. Many an unsuspecting Z28 or GT owner was caught with their pants down by a "grandma car".

Mutually ex clusive.
Maybe over there.
Over here.
Insignia VXR 2.8i Turbo V6, 32 1bhp, manual 4x4.
Liftback
& estate

Not this side of the pond.

While it was offered in a 2.8i 321bhp manual 4x4 VXR spec.
Liftback and estate.
It also had a crossover version.
Remember those quirky lights on the estate and convertible.

Yeah, I’ve heard they take to a p ulley well, too...

That sounds very appealing if it's in a color

I fell in love with the gs after seeing it in road and track when it first came out but it makes since to want to toned down version.
Gm reliability is probably suspect on a turbo 4 but it cant get much worse then what bmw and mercedes bring to the table

Yeah, a pulley and some basic bolt-ons can put them right around 300 whp. I’m putting one in my Fiero.

AKA, how to solve the torque steer problem.

Well I think the lower power turbo is pretty tuneable to gs levels, I don’t think there was much difference mechanically but I could be wrong. I just don’t see the need for brembos and no-s idewall-h avin’-expensive-ass tires and I don't really like the gs fascia.

I got one of those without the stick as a rental on the big island last year. It was quick, and it wasn’t a bad car, but it had the character of a dentist office. It was a supremely uninteresting car to drive, despite that it should have had all the bits to be good.

The 2.0L turbo 4 is based on the “ original” EcoTec (2.0 to 2.4 or 2.5L displacements, in other words the “big” EcoTec ) and they have been making that engine for like 20 years now. My understanding is they are good and reliable in stock trim and even with some basic mods (intake, exhaust, tune) that would put you in the low-to- mid 300 HP range. It’s around the 400 HP mark that the stock guts start falling apart. I had a 2.2L non-turbo in my old Cobalt and it went 73k miles with nothing but oil changes. We currently have the 2.0L turbo in my wife’s 2018 Terrain. It’s only got 17k on the clock so too early to make any calls on reliability . But it is a good running little engine.
GM has had numerous problems with the “Family 0" port fuel injected turbo 4 cylinders that came in cars such as my 2012 Cruze. I think they still call it an “EcoTec” but it’s either an Opel or Daewoo designed engine and has nothing in common with the “original” EcoTec mentioned above. Early ones like mine had bad turbos (mine was covered under warranty thankfully), and they have problems with cam phasers and CONSTANTLY EATING PCVs. T he PCV is a 3 part system built into the intake manifold ($155) , valve cover ($65) , and part of the turbo inlet ($50) . Mine’s had 2 valve covers so far and now needs an intake. It’s a trash design.
The newer (2016+) Cruzes and other small GM now get the SGE (Small Gasoline Engine) family of direct fuel injected engines that come in 1.4L Turbo and 1.5L Turbo. This is a clean sheet design and unrelated to either the “original” EcoTec or the “Family 0". I haven’t paid too much attention to these but I did hear something about early Malibu’ s with this engine melting pistons? Doesn’t sound reassuring... but who knows, maybe it was a bad batch or something?

I owned a 2012 Regal GS 6 speed for about 45 days. Bought it used, and the clutch went out (slave cylinder to be specific) within the first two weeks. Took the local dealer 3 attempts to fix, and the first attempt included them reattaching the steering column at about a 45 degree angle off center. Once the clutch was finally fixed, the adjustable suspension started to leak. After the issues and the absolutely awful dealer experience, I dumped as quickly as possible.
However, it was a fun car when it worked. Clutch was heavy and shifts were long and a tad sloppy, but it was very comfortable, quiet inside, and after the turbo lag went away, had a ton of shove and was a joy to get on it when I could.

Ill be looking at them when they fall into the 8-10k price range so dealerships wont really be a factor, though that still dosent sound particularly reliable
